Drive Line Lash
Has anyone had problems with what sounds like an intermittent drive line lash/popping noise heard/felt from the rear of the truck when releasing the brake say at a traffic light or simular. It does not happen everytime. Somtimes it is louder/ more pronounced and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. I also feel it in my seat when it happens. Otherwise the truck performs normally. I am currently out of town so I was wondering if there is any others that have had this before I take it back to the dealer.
Also I will try this again. Does anyone have a SC installed on the V-8 yet. I am sure eyeballing it. Thanks.

The slip joint, where the driveshaft spline mates with the transmission output shaft spline is dry (unlubed), and binding. It is lubed via a grease fitting. Have the dealer give it shot of grease. I believe the service interval is every second oil change.

DRIVE LINE LASH
DUH.. I can't believe that I didn't think to lube the damn thing yet. I guess it is because it is still new that I didn't think to do it. Does anyone know the recomended grease type. It is probably in the manual also.

I saw a 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inch spring spacers for sale on www.truckperformance.com. That is all I have come across so far. I have also heard that there are issues going above 2 1/2 inches with XREAS installed. Not sure on the details.

No I believe that he is talking about the slip joint that slides forward and aft. It should be close to the trans yoke with a fitting near believe. It makes perfect sense. I will lube the whole undercarage when I do it WED. THanks.

I knew the service manual would come in handy...
Spiders: lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No. 2
Slide yoke: molybdenum disulphide lithium base chassis grease NLGI No. 2
Double-Cardan Joint: molybdenum disulphide lithium base chassis grease NLGI No. 2
While you're under there, re-torque the four bolts at each end of the driveshaft to 65 ft-lb

Could be... the 4th Gen might be different. On the 4th Gen the slip joint is on the driveshaft side of the front u-joint for 4WD models and on the transmission side of the front u-joint for 2WD models

Yep that is the one. I greased them all today. I do not have a service manual yet but the front and rear drive shafts were the ONLY fittings that I could find under the truck. Also there is no double joint as the previous generations have to include my 92. If anyone cared. It is too early to tell if it fixed my problem or not but I was surprised to find actual seals on the drive shaft slip joint. I don't believe my older truck has that.
Oh what is the deal with the skid plate being partly plastic? What good is that going to do?? Is it just me or does that seem pretty stupid? Thanks for the help.

What's a general good practice when filling up the slip joints? I pumped the grease gun just 3 times to be on the safe side. If there is excess grease would it just escape when the joint is compressed without any damage to seals and such?

Is the plastic skid just the section under the oil pan to get to the drain bolt or is there more? I haven't really looked yet.

Well, the front drive shaft only took 7 total pumps until it was full. The rear one took like 100+ until i emptied the whole 3oz (85ml)cartridge in there and it still was not full
Which makes sense, since the truck was mostly in RWD mode. What's the capacity of this thing?

Pumped another ~1oz in the rear shaft and the slip joint expanded about 1/4" while very runny rust colored grease oozed out of it. Nothing was coming out of the u-joint though.
