Ca Bay area, Hollister Dec 14th

The norcal xterra owners club are getting together at hollister on Dec 14th and are going to be doing a brief wheeling tutorial. This is an excellent opportunity for people new to wheeling and the mud will be a blast. I've gone with these guys once before and they're great people. I'll be going on this trip and all are welcome to come.

So who's in?

Here's the thread at XOC.

I'm interested. You never can stop learning in this sport, so it'll be educational. I'd like to take on some more advanced trails too tho.

Hey is Hollister worth the drive up from socal?
If anyone from socal is going, it would be fun to caravan up for it.

Heh, no, not really. It's good for a day trip and it's fun to watch the built rigs play on the mini rubicon, but I don't think it's worth the 5+ hours for the drive. Trips in the sierras are worth the drive, but winter has hit so the trails are snowed in now.

Well that's that then.

I'm going to San Juan Bautista around the 19th so if Hollister is close maybe I'll go check it out.

hey got room

Hey robinhood

Got room for another rookie? I know we had our differences in the past, but Ive been totally bitten by the 4x4 bug and learning alot about the hobby. Let me buy you a starbucks double latte or a big gulp slurpee

Just got back from pismo an have a greater appreciation for what a 4x4 can do. I know life is a learning experience and I'd love to try some light trails and hopefully build into bigger trails....

thanks Big Kahuna

Breezy, you can probably do a mapquest search for hollister, ca to tell you how long it'll take you. I think it takes me about 1.5 hours to get there from my place and Sac is about 2 hours from my place. My guess is you're looking at about 3.5 hours or so.

Here's directions: http://www.hollisterhills.com/directions.html

Here's the info from the Xterra guys:
We will be using CB channel 14 and FRS channel 8 (I will follow up with a sub-code once I know everyone has them). The meeting spot will be the 4x4 obstacle course at 11am –12pm. Caravan meeting spots to follow.

Everybody, here's how it works if we don't caravan: Turn into the park entrance and pay $4 to the ranger guys. They'll give you the combo to a locked gate. Go back out to the street and continue on until you see a small, white school house on your right and a gate.

Hey, are you guys still up for it even if it rains? There's a 40% chance of rain on Sunday. The xterra guys may end up postponing if it's going to rain too hard. I'm still in if they're going, but if they postpone them I am too.

Well, they haven't said anything yet. Check back with this thread and the XOC thread tomorrow and we'll see what happens. Kahuna, are you guys still in even if it rains hard?

Looks like a go as the weather is clear

Hey robin,

If the weather look like today it'll be a blast and it should be pretty safe for all.. Sara, Jack and I are pretty down. If its raining hard on sunday morning then we might just call it an early trip a few sprinkles means we are there. We are all in san jose and not to far from Hollister so its most likely a go. We were thinking on meeting at the 9:30 in San Jose and driving straight there. Ill email my cell to you. Jacks got weak brakes and we will probably give it a once over before the trip.

I cant wait just want to go light though and learn the terrain(hopefully no dents and dings)

We'll Most likely see you there.. any tips or recommendations to us green shoes:alien: . besides food and water..

Peace Big Kahuna

Um, yeah, so...weather.com says 80% chance of rain on sunday. The hourly forecast says showers in the morning and rain during the day, but partly cloudy after 3pm.

Bring a camera. Be sure to check this thread before you go just to make sure this is still on. Also, do you have AOL IM?
