93' Pickup with 2JZ and 4WD....
Hey guys. I am new to the forum, but wanted to post up a cool project our shop is working on right now and see what kind of feedback we could get from what we consider to be our "traget audience". Its a 1993 Toyota Pickup that we put a 2JZ Twin Turbo motor into. This has been done before a few times, but we were able to put together a tranny that will let this setup keep the 4wd functionality, but bolt to the 2JZ, withought hacking and welding bellhousings. This thing should be crazy when its done, and we are Jigging the motor and tranny mounts to make an install kit to sell, which will be available soon if anybody is interested. We plan on offering a kit that will include motor mounts, a tranny relocator mount, a new driveshaft , a wiring harness adapter and the front half of the transmission that will bolt up to the 4WD truck tranny and work with the supra 2JZ. It will be available for the 86 - 95 4WD trucks, and we will also be putting a tranny together for the older model trucks as well. We just have some super fun wiring and misc. crap to do on this one, and then this ultimate winter and off road beast will be good to go. Questions and comments welcome, let us know what you think!

They are the same as the 1jz, but not the 7m. The placement of the mount on the block between the 1j/2jz and the 7m are about an inch difference. The litteral mount is virtually the same though. Lots of Mk3 supra guys swap out to the more solid 2jz motor mounts for their 7mgte's.

note that MKIII have two diff sub-frame from 86.5-88 and 89-92.
89+ 7m have the same motor mounts location as 1jz.

interesting idea but how do you justify paying 2 or 3 times as much for a 2JZGTTE when the 7Ms are so cheap? The cost-benefit comparison doesnt make sense to me. Everywhere i've seen twin turbo supra engines run 2k+ used while 7Ms can be had for <1k . The only reason i could see is the "cool" factor, for any power level you'd want in a truck why not take the extra cash and put it towards a rebuilt engine, or the rest of the cost of the swap.
What are you doing for the wiring side of the setup, making new harnesses to plug the 2J engine harness into the truck one or just giving instructions on what wires to solder where?
Also, what about fans and radiators? Thats one of the biggest problems with an inline 6 in a V6 engine bay. I had to use a real short radiator and put it between the frame and hood latch to fit even a thin puller fan behind the radiator.

they say the 2J has a higher upper limit for power but i think thats more a matter of funding. You don't see anyone throwing $20,000 into upgrading a 7M engine in a $3,000 car while its not unheard of in $50,000 mk4s. But remember, this is a truck, not a sports car. Theres fun power, and there's also un-safe power. Unless you set it up like a drag truck like this guy. . .

I thoroughly agree, but the tons of horses might be good for mud drags. I really wanted to emulate your swap actually, but couldn't fine a 7M for a decent price. Found my 1UZ (250 stock horses) for 1250 attached to a car with goodies in it. Gives me harness, ecu, engine + bay stuff + stuff to sell off car.

Any more info on this swap? I am thinking either a 2jztte or a 1uz, I found a jdm 2jz with an auto trans, alt, starter, intake, uncut wiring harness for 1600usd + shipping, but i'm having trouble finding any info or anything even close to a "kit" for either swap, the 1uz w/ 3.0 5spd seems to have lots of problems with the trans ecu,
I'm starting to think that whatever swap I wind up doing is going to be with a trans that was originally for the engine I use, and just use a divorced 4cyl transfercase, that way I don't have any issues with the ecu/bell housing/clutch/flywheel, anyone ever install a divorced transfercase?

If you are questioning the 7M motor go on the supra forums and look into how many people have oil starvation problems, rod bearing problems due to weak rods, head warping problems, head gasket problems, ect and ect. A Head porter friend of mine Named Dave Localio, owner of Headgames in ewing N.J. is vary familer with 7m motors and has nothing good to say about them.
2jz motors are light years ahead of the 7M, granted some stick with the 7M but it costs more to build one up then just stick with the better motor in stock form.
