WHAT!?!?! Spill the beans!
The Baja Rack is a full length bolt on affair. Three mounts for each side bolt into the existing tracks, a front padded mount fits into the gutter and supports the front. The thing is solid I can move the whole truck by the accessories attached to the mount and the rack doesn't budge. The other Baja Rack goodies including cargo net come with it and all at a phenomenal price. $595 plus shipping. I guess Gobi being American made and full length doesn't really justify the $1,500 price tag anymore. Talk to Jesus he hooked it up big time.

hate to ask, but can you take a close up picture of the front mount? I was going to do what Chaplin did and get the mega Mule and mod it to work. (which i might end up doing, as i want a low rise setup)

I'll take the pic tomorrow. It's maybe two inches at best. I can still pull into my garage with a tire on top so I'd say it's fairly low profile. Remember though, as Chaplin said, the Mega Mule is actually too wide for the 3rd gen.

Well I went to the garage so here's the pics. I guess I was wrong the front's actually about 2.5" high but I guess the height is required to keep it level, as the front of the truck slopes down. Back can't get much lower.

Here's a pic of the rear height and another side view for good measure. If this is getting too off topic feel free to delete my posts and I'll start a new thread.

I was thinking that I may buy two of these for use on my pop-up trailer. You really can't beat the price.

EDIT*****

I went ahead and just bought one. I used the "Make Offer" price of $45 and it was accepted. So, you can get one of these for $45 with Free Shipping at the Ebay link above.
So, I got my rack last week, and they never shipped the mounting hardware. So, I had to have them send it out. The hardware came in yesterday, but its pretty much worthless IMO. So, I will have to make some a little better. No biggie really since I only paid $45 total for the rack.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rack itself given the price. I wouldn't hesitate to load the hell out of this thing if the roof could handle it. My plan is to use some of the smaller 8 gallon Rubbermaid Action Packer tubs on the rack.

I have used some of these in the past, and they are awesome. They keep rain water out, so even with Food and clothes will stay dry in them.

So, if you want a dirt cheap rack that you can load up with plenty of weight, I highly recommend this one. I will post some pics tomorrow when I can clean up the 4runner a little bit.

I must admit, I'm seriously jealous of that ladder. I may have to see if Baja Rack is willing to make one for the 4Runner.

When did that happen? I'll be giving them a call very soon I think. I actually like that better than the Gobi one.

Unless you plan on putting a tent up there, sliders are more functional and give you just as much access to the roof.

I dig that Baja rack. Nice that they have a full length option for half the price of Gobi now.

I already have sliders, and they won't allow you to get on top of the roof. The reason I know i'd like a ladder is cause I climbed on the roof rack the other day and it was a PITA. Then I had to jump off the roof (no other way down) and busted in my yard. It was kinda embarrassing.

Now, keep in mind that I am not a fan of roof racks. I am only using this thing because of the 3rd row seat and not having any storage left in the rig. It will not be used on a regular basis, only when needed when pulling the pop-up around and on long drives with the whole family.

So, I ordered this rack off of Ebay for a whopping $45 shipped on the "Best Offer" method. FWIW, the rack is pretty damn strong. The mounting hardware is worthless though. So, I modified the mounting hardware to work, and got it bolted on.
