in the eightys there were documented cases of dodge slant sixes goining 900,000+ without the head even being off the motor. the slant might have something to do with it seeing how the toyota camry 2.0 and 2.2 family are slightly slanted and seem to run to 400,000 with common maintenance.

but you 4runner should make it to 350,000 without much effort. i say this due to the fact that you put alot of miles on quick. just make sure she doesn't overheat and full of clean oil, also trans services, and lastly don't drive it like you stole it. mike

Yea, it seemed like the miles came pretty quick at first, but now that I've got 2 trucks I haven't driven much over 10K in the past 2 years.

over 200k on a 98 3.4 and ran great, i beat the hell out of that truck too. i would say 300k pretty easy.

heep vs. runner

I would expect atleast 300k with good maintenance. Thats why I switched from my jeep to the 4Runner. I even had the jeep payed off and took a loan out on the runner and I still couldnt be happier

Very encouraging guys...I appreciate it. I think that's what I'll do. Drive it until I am absolutely sick of it (which would be never if it were not for the vibration issue I'm still having) and then get something new in 3 years or so, maybe longer. With kids coming in less than two years, we may have to shell out some big bucks to get my wife a full size SUV like a Sequoia. I just hate buying a used vehicle because you just don't know what you're gonna get, although I'm not ruling it out since we could save quite a bit.

I figure we'll buy the house and hers next year (house in the summer, new vehicle in the fall) and I'll just keep on trucking.

When these 265/75/16 Cross Terrains wear out, I will be switching back to a size 265/70/16 tire. I don't understand why that small height difference has made my vibration above 65 mph unable to be cured, but it has. I've done everything, and it's still there (see umpteen million posts I've got on here about it). Never had the problem when I used to have 70/16s. When the needed to be re-balanced, they let me know and I got them balanced on a Hunter maching with the Haweka plate and it went away. Not the case with these 75/16s and it's not the tires because I tried a set of Revos initially and took them back thinking it was the tires, only to shell out another couple hundred for Michelins and have the same problem.

First step is going to see a financial planner though....Thanks for all the help guys.

Last year, I looked at a 98, reg cab, 4cyl, 2wd, Tacoma with 536k miles on it...no rebuilds ever!!!, and it didnt smoke or use a drop of oil, it was used as a delivery truck!! It also had no body damage...not even a scratch!!!! I think he wanted $2000 for it!! I would have bought it, but I found my 89 with 125k and bought it instead!!!

thats what i heard... 3rd gens ( maybe others) are suppose to last at least 300K with regular maintenance
