Just got a 96 V6 4runner 5 speed

I picked up a 96 V6 4Runner 5 speed a few weeks ago, and just got around to registering it today. anyway the clutch pedal squeeks, and it has a few other small things that are bugging me. but what i want to know is if there are any major recalls for this thing that i need to be aware of?

According to the previous owner, it had the HG recall done, and the Rear springs were replaced about a year ago.

Thanks

Steve

the HG recall and the rear springs are the important recalls. I'm not sure about any others off the top of my head.

This squeek is usually the first signs/symptoms of the teflon bushings giving up at the pivot points of the clutch. There are a few articles on how to repair/replace. You just need the parts (approx $3-4), sockets, and a very flexable back to get to it all.

Enjoy. Andrew

Who in their right mind would buy a 96 4Runner V6 5-speed?

norcal,

i have a write up in the tech section that might be of interest: http://www.4runners.org/articles/clutchbush

also, theres a recent thread about an alternative method. search "clutch bushing" and most likely it will come up. the thread starter is unhappy99

Yeah my Tacoma had the same problems, and the dealer ended up replacing the clutch pedle assembly, i read about the linear spring on this board yesterday, and might give that a go.

I also noticed a buzzing comming from the Engine comparment when i drive it hard (after it's shut off) Any idea what that is???

Other than that i love this thing, My Taco is a 5 speed, and have always wanted a 4runner 5 speed. Well it turns out that my wife is pregnant so it was the perfect time to get one. Now i just need to find a double cab taco cab to put onto my Ex Cab frame...

Some wierd guys that feel the need to have three pedles on the floor instead of two... More is better... My taco is a 5 speed and i love it, just need more room, so now i have both!!

It's funny how similar the two are, but how different they are at the same time.

Congrats,I just got mine about a month ago and the big reason I ended up with a 4Runner instead of a Tacoma was I found a 5 speed,I just wasn't ready for an automatic. My mom has a '99 Limited with the auto and it's ok but I knew a 5 speed was for me.

Oh yeah,my clutch pedal squeaks also,I sprayed the pivot points with WD40 and it really quieted the pedal down till I can replace the bushings.

I believe that is the charcoal canister. A non-buzzing version will run you $20 I think. Think of it as your truck snoring...that's what I do anyway.

HAHA,my truck also buzzes and I figured it had to do with the emissions system so I wasn't too concerned but it's nice to know what it is.
