Hi helpful forum,

My 1994 has all those swoopy factory-supplied side stripes that make the truck look like a drink with an umbrella. I want to remove them, leaving just a plain white truck. What's the best way? I was figuring a hair dryer to soften them, then clean up residual adhesive with naptha, then put a heavy coat of wax on, cuz' the naptha will remove the current wax. Plus, there's probably no wax under the vinyl decals.

I did almost exactly what you mentioned except; I used a flameless heat gun. I don't know if a standard hair dryer will get hot enough. I was lucky to have a heat gun. I then used acetone to get the glue off, followed by washing and waxing. Good luck....not TOO bad of a job......Oh....follow waxing with or

Hairdryers get hot enough, that's what I use.
Be careful removing the stripes, most likely the paint has faded and you will be able to tell that there were stripes on there.

Hair dryer, Plastic scraper (one of the yellow ones you can pick up at home depot), 3m adhesive remover. Most of the time you can just use the hair dryer on a hot day and peel off the stripe with just that but the scraper helps. I used this to do my pinstripes on my mustang. Just make sure that the stripes haven't been clear coated over. If thats the case ur screwed. Pick up some rubbing compound and polish compound while your at it and go ahead and do the entire vehicle that way the faded paint syndrome isn't so bad. Heat gun will most likely do more damage than good if your not careful, just get a hairdryer.

I had some body work done and the guy that did it took it off with some type of solution and a heat gun. He sprayed the solution on and let it sit about 5 min. Then he came back and carefully peeled it off using the heat gun to aid his efforts. Just give that a try. :fireman:

yeah if I remember right goo gone or 3m adhesive remover will penetrate the vinel sticker. Next time I'm out in the shed I'll look at the goo gone bottle and see what it says.

Just thought I would throw my $0.02 in here. I, too, was trying to remove the vinyl swoopy factory stripes on my '01.

I used a heat gun and the 3M product found at Autozone (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=189453_0_0_) for one side of my 4Runner. The process took about 4 hours and left me with blisters on two fingers from scrubbing the adhesive away.

In the process I almost used up the entire spray can, so I figured I would try a product called Vinyl Off by Crystal Tek, that was recommended on vinyl wrap removal site. I bought it from Advantage Sign Supply (http://www.advantagesignsupply.com/C...Vinyl-Off-8-oz), and used it take off the stickers off the other side. It only took me about 30 minutes.

In short, I highly recommend Vinyl Off if anyone is looking to remove factory stickers (or any stickers for that matter) from their vehicle.

3m has a rubber wheel that goes on a drill takes them off and most the glue don't run wide open look up tube videos best way and less time in my opinion
