ADD VSV cost??
Hello
Well thanks to all the info i picked up here I landed a 97 runner 3.4, 5 speed with an e-lock. Thanks to everbody for your great info.
My only problem with the runner is the 4 wheel doesn't work. I tracked the problem down to a faulty ADD VSV. The brown solenoid works fine(2WD) the blue one (4WD) is a no go. I'm thinking great, I'm 100 percent sure that little valve is the problem and maybe $60-80 at the dealer for the set up and I,m good to go. But Noooooooooooooo my the local dealer quoted me $587..... and thats WITH a 20%shop discount. WTF!!! does that sound right?
Part # he gave me was 8544035040
I asked him if this was the little solenoid valves and not the entire differential actuator assembly and he confirmed it was for quote "the little 2 barrel looking things".
I just want to make sure that this guy knows what hes talking about. All I really need is that freakin little blue solenoid valve.
Thanks

Junkyard, yah thats exactly what i'm thinking. I just hate to replace it with a used part that may already be on its way out. But I guess at Over $600 with tax, yous gotta do what yous gotta do.
On the bright side, I can do the job of the solenoid valve with a 10 cent plastic vacuum hose connector and a plug. I just have to open the hood and swith the connector between hoses to switch between 2 and 4 wheel. I tried it works perfectly just a PITA
Troubleshooting wise I checked
vacuum signal in =Good
Apply vacuum after solenoid valve = good=ADD on (wheels engaged)
Solenoid coil resistance= 42 Ohm = good
Voltage at solenoid connector to ground = system voltage= good
voltage at solenoid connector between positive & negative female pins = system voltage= good (it proves there is no resistance in the negative side of the solenoid control circuit.
My next plan of course to prove beyond any doubt that the solenoid is bad will be;
to find a connector from the junk yard and
1) jump it just as you suggested to see if the valve will open
2) Splice an ammeter in the VSV/ADD circuit and see how much if any current flows throught the circuit when 4 wd is engaged.
When I was searching through this forum I found mention from someone who wrote they bought a valve from the dealer for like $36 but I cant find it now. I was really hoping to hear something along those lines from someone here. Fingers crossed.
Thanks

Go to a different dealer and get a price. Or, call http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214074 They should be able to help and they have great prices.

Awesome! My 4x is back in buisiness.
Man, crolison busted ass on sending me the partsI bought from him, he's top rate for sure. Thanks Bud! Too bad his parts truck interior isn't beige like mine or I would have bought a number of other items from him as well.
Thanks for everyones input I bookmarked the two sites suggested for later use.
