1987 4Runner SR5 build up
I have this 1987 4Runner that was my daily driver until it caught on fire. (fuel tank) Since it is off the road for a bit, I am going to go all out on it.
Things to do:
Rebuild Motor
5speed conversion
Rhino line interior
New upholstery for seats
custom panels (thinking diamond plate aluminum)
Custom paint all throughout.
A big job ahead of me.
Here are some current pics.
If anyone has some wisdom or advice, I'm all ears! I'm terrible with electrical, that is what I am fearing most. Nuts and Bolts are my friends!

If the fire just got the back end of the electrical, that isnt bad at all. I would just go to the boneyard and get the wiring harness out of another runner. It isnt that bad to run the back end. I just got done doing a wiring swap on my 86. (mouse and PO) If any questions come up, feel free to PM. I have been thru this very indepth.
Nice looking truck. Looking forward to your build.

A little more done today..
Today I managed to make it back out to put a little bit of wrench time on the 4runner. I was working on a business website from 5 until about 1, and I was just itching to get out and do something!
I ended up tearing out my front seats, and the rest of the carpet, and also getting some dash pieces out. Pretty good progress for just an hour or so of being out there, I thought.
Of course experience from past rebuilds has taught me... ORGANIZE!
Also, thank you Terrys87, for your help! I am sure I will take you up on that by the time this is through!
This is my sending unit, which is actually not terrible for having been on fire!

For as bad as the fire could of gotten, you were really fortunate not to have lost the truck. For a fuel pump, to save quite a bit on cash, I get mine from "carpartswholesale" on ebay for around $30. Parts store wants around $150 and Toyota wants $300. They are and exact fit. I have never had a problem with them.
On the wiring, I would go with 87,88 and maybe 89 wiring. The 86 and older has some changes, not much, but enough to make it a little more concerning.
You did get alot done. Looking good.
