For mostly highway, get the BFG. The Cooper S/T is much more aggressive than the BFG. Because it's more aggressive, it makes much more noise. I have had both tires, so I can give an accurate assesment of them. The lugs on the Cooper are spaced much further apart, similar to a mud tire, but not quite as extreme. Both are outstanding tires, but for mostly highway, stick with the BFG.

I have been on the phone all monring.
The 315 is not listed for retailers, BUT is available.
I am waiting on a price for them.

I got $190 each for the 285.

What I like about the STT is that is is 34.47" x11.9"X16---not much wider than my 285, but a bit taller.

We will see what kind of price they want.

cooper made things nice and confusing with their tires. they've got the discoverer STT(which is the MT/R type tire, but looks better in the mud), the discoverer radial STT(run of the mill mud tire), and the discoverer S/T, which is more of an agressive all-terrain.

the next set on my d/d will probably be the S/Ts. they look like they'd do well in the rain and on ice. personally i think cooper makes some of the best tires, and the prices are usually good as well. only place in my town that sells them is a tire factory franchise, but fortunately they're cheaper than all the big places like discount and schwab, and the warranty and service are every bit as good.

Just got off the phone with another local Cooper dealer (they all use the same distibutor)
The 315 STT is not available now. WTF.

I got off the phone with Cooper yesterday. Ihate when tire companies list a size, then don't make it avaialble.

i did learn that one of the onl rubber plants is in La. and was damaged by the hurricane and something about Cooper losing like 9 million is profit b/c of supply issues.

I thought I would give them a shot, but this is turning into a headache.

...20 minutes on the phone later I can get them mounted and balanced in 315 for $214 each.
Not too bad.

Then the guy says he has to buy a truckload before he can order them. WTF

I told him that Cooper said they can be ordered directly. I love knowing more than actaul employess.

We will see. Still on the fence about the STT or Nitto Terra Grappler.

I found an actaul authorized dealer that ONLY sells tires. He is calling distributor and getting me a price and an actual ETA on delivery.

I might have to wait a few weeks, but this tires seems to be perfect for my needs.
We will see later this afternoon

I llove the MT/Rs, but they are 12.5" wide in the 315 variety.
The STT is 11.9"

If I can't get the STTs, then I might just make some MT/Rs fit

I didn't realize the STT were "on the narrow" in the 315 size. FWIW, I would go Cooper as well, they cost much less and I have been very satisfied with the cooper built tires i have had in the past.

Most people don't realize how many other "tire companies" are just names, Pro-Comp and Mastercraft are both made by Cooper.

Well mine kicked serious butt in Wellsville yesterday. A+ in mud and great in rocks too.

I was the least capable vehicle (except maybe for tc) and was running with locked jeeps and tacos with 35. I only got stuck 2 times all day, both were very minor and I could have avoided it if I were a better driver off road.

Pictures and details to follow in my build-up thread soon.

I ran the trxus MTs on mt bronco... they are also an amazing tire.... great off road and great on road.... in the total package I wish I kept them, and didnt sell them for a set of 36" bias swampers..... swampers rock the world off road, but a 36" bias tire on road when cold is a crapy feeling.....

FilthyRich, would love to hear what you think about them if you end up with a set!!!

Cheers
Bob

I am waitng for Cooper to get in touch with the corporate office at Amercian Tire Distributor. They are the only local distributor they will all talk in the am.

Hopefully they can expedite this or I might just get some 315 MTRs.

i want the Coopers, but I am not willing to wait 3 weeks.

I will keep you guys updated as I know more....
