255/75 R16 on HJ47 ute
Edit: ignore size in title, talking 255/85 R16 here.
Hey guys,
Newby from Aus here, did a search but no joy- so hope this isn't a repost:
I have an '84 HJ47 ute currently running 235/85 16 tyres on the original 5.5inch split rims. Great car, very happy, however the 4spd gets a bit revvy at 100km'h (60mph for you folks), and I know that bigger is better for wheeling.
I like fuel economy and a legal vehicle (our cops don't like wide tyres) so I want to go as tall and skinny as possible without lift. My research has narrowed it down to 8.25R16 (pretty rare) or 255/85 R16, basically skinny 33's.
I appreciate I'll need 6.5-7inch rims for these tyres, my question is will they fit under the cruiser with stock suspension?
Thanks in advance
James.

Try www.ih8mud.com, there won't likely be anyone else on here with an HJ47. I've got an HJ60, and I'd bet it could fit a 33x10" of tire (which are the physical dimensions of a 255/85r16), but as for a HJ47, I can't help you.
