8s would be fine a lot run those 10s would be ok to but you run the risk of blowing a bead aired down.

12.50's recommend a 10" wide wheel. IIRC

what does it say on the side of your tire?

the 8 and 10" rim dilemma faces a few people. If you are talking about the '95 Runner in your avatar, I would go with the 8" wide rims. Not sure what lift you are running.
I have run both sizes on various trucks over the years.
Granted these pictures are of my '81, 8" wide rims with 3" BS, The lower pictures are with 1.5" spacers but I think it might give you an idea of how far the tire might stick out on your truck with a 10" Rim.
Before spacers:

After 1.5" spacers:

In some areas having your tire stick out that far is illegal and some cops like to get guys for it.

It all comes down to backspacing in my opinion...10" wide rims give you more stability but also increase wear on wheel bearings due to the increased unsprung weight....

i didn't realize that with 10" wide rims.

yeah if your tires stick out too far in some place's cops can give you a ticket or even a vehicle inspection notice. you might want to get flare's.

A 8-10" wide rim will work great with 12.50" wide tires. Mine is right around 8.5" wide.

so will any certain size width make the stanc wider or skinnier or is that just backspacing?

Wider tires will make it stick out more but the back spacing really effects it the most.

I'm running 12.50 on a 10" rim. I've never had a bead blow, but I have had problems with the tires spinning on the rim. For years I wondered why my tires wouldn't stay balanced. Then I decided to mark the valve stem location on the tire and found they slowly creep on the rims as I was wheeling (aired down to about 12 psi).

I have now done the poorman's beadlock mod and only air down to 17-18 psi and that has stopped the slipping.

x2!!! I run 8s on my Cooper STT 33x12.5's for that exact reason. Plus thinner wheels are less exspensive

anyone run a 15" wide tire on a 8.5" rim or do you think that would be tooo skinny. i have some 2" spacers i can use if i need so backspacing is not a problem.

I have a full discussion of how tire and wheel width as well as backspacing affect track width on the web page below:
