95 runner 3.4/auto to Manuel swap, do you really need Manuel ECU?

Bought a runner with the 3.0 auto in it and am really wishing it where a Manuel r150-r150f?
do you need to swap out the auto wiring or will the Manuel ecu plug into the auto 3.4 wiring harness?
i hear you can run a auto 3.4 ecu with a Manuel trans as long as you trick the computer into thinking its in natural any truth to that?

95 4x4 4 runner 98 3.4 swapped
stock 95 auto trans
98 auto ecu

Starting the swap myself...i have read that you don't need the manual ecu. Just find the neutral safety and make it think its in neutral. Will find out in a week or so when i do it.

Can you do it that way. Sure.

Is it the right way? Not IMO.

It will never pass inspection like that, and possibly not run right. Do it right the first time.

Don't have to pass inspection here in Oregon what all did you have to do to change it from auto to Manuel with an auto ecu? Very interested in doing this.
I already have the peddles just need the trans the crosember and a few other things?

Hey Im getting ready to put a manual tranny into my auto truck and there doesn't seem to be a knockout for the clutch master cylinder, has anyone had to cut the firewall to make this work.....bought the pedal assembly and the tranny and master cylinder and today was the first time i checked for a SPOT to mount the master cylinder, also looks like i have
to dissasssemble steering gear to run it through the new pedal assembly....sound right to everyone? Truck is a 92 auto and now it has 3.4 with a blown auto tranny out of a 2002 runner so switching to manual!

I didn't document how I did mine, but if I remember correctly I mounted the pedal assembly then drew where to put the master. Very easy swap to do IMO. I'll find out tomorrow, runner is in the shop for some upgrades

Hey 4x4 runner just a quick question.
The master and slave bolt right up to the r150f trans right?
Didn't know if the slave mounted to the driver or pass side of the bellhousing..

the slave mounts on the right passenger side up until around 96 and up when the r150 got a deeper bell housing for the 3.4 then i believe its on the driver side
