thats great!! thanks for the help.
If its not too much trouble could you be specific about which bolts? I remember changing out some lights in the instrument area and I had to take the whole dash off. I remember screaming and yelling at what a pain in the ass it was.
I appreciate it.
Thanks
TS

You will be surprized how easy it is once you have done it once or twice..

Undo:

-Bolts holding plastic trim under the steering colum (not on the colum itself)
-pop out the black trim around your guage cluster and heater, undo all the eletrical connections (takes some effort)
-undo two screws on the top of the guage cluster ( look up from the leg area, you will see what im talking about)
- remove 4 screws holding cluster in
- ( on some trucks you might have to undo the speedo cable from the t-case. Use a wrench)
- pull cluster out, remove 4 electrical harness connections. Don't worry, they will only fit in the right socket.
- pull off speedo cable

Done!

Pull the cluster out. The lights have little tabs on the bad, twist and pull out.

A word of warning, when putting in the small #74 bulbs, they are a very tight fit.

For the instrument cluster you need 2 74 bulbs and 3 194 IIRC.

David
There is no cross reference on the 194 IIRC
Could you tell me what IIRC means. I called super bright led's and they didnt know what that meant.
They also said the 120 degree angle is the best one.
The problem is there are 3 or 4 different types of 194's and the same with the 74's.
I like the pictures of your blue lighting and I would like to get exactly that lighting cluster. Could you tell me what 74's and what 194's you got. That would be great
I really appreciate the help
thanks

to do your 3rd gen cluster blue, use:

bulbs located here* http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

3 # 194 WLED-x5 LED Wedge Base Bulbs

And 2 # 74-xHP bulbs.

And for refrence,

You can change all your other warning lights:

Turn signals are #194's
all others are #74 bulbs.

Make sure to get an extra # 74 for your heater.

Oh,

IIRC = If I remember correctly.

I don't think you'd want to go the UV route... they are Ok when viewed in a completely dark environment but not so much in the semi-dark of a city night also the black light is very fatiguing to the eyes and can even cause damage over the long term and interfere with night vision... if you were to install some I'd use them only as an accent light and then only turn them on when parked or when participating in those show n shine, spl drags, tuner meets... that sort of thing.

Hey All!

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to offer my experience and ask questions.

I have a 1992 2wd 22re Japan. Swapped out the single speedo gauge with the 4runner gauge with the odometer. Had to wire up the odometer and then went to replace the bulbs with LEDs and chose BLUE! After a while, not sure I like it, and was thinking of moving to red because of a thread here that red is easier on the night vision.

Anyway, changed out all my stupid lights with LEDs as well according to their color. The Brake light and battery light only DIM when I start the truck. They are bright with key to battery but only dim when I start the engine, they don't turn off. Also the bright headlight setting doesn't activate with the brights.

I noticed I'm missing two of the plugs for lights I don't even have and am wondering if I'm missing a connection issue. . .

Seat belt light turns off as well as the check engine (until a code 71 popped up and now have a bright amber check engine staring at me)

Any ideas would be helpful. I've been spending more time on superbrightLEDS trying to research more of their recommended 194s

thanks!
