Metal Shavings in a Slip Yoke?

Last night I noticed the zerk on the rear slip yoke was sheared off on my '99 4Runner. I tried using a couple different screw extractors/easy outs, but the remaining piece of the zerk would not budge. I ended up drilling out the zerk, which worked great. However, I'm afraid there may be a few small metal shavings inside the slip yoke now. Before I grease the slip yoke, should I take any actions to ensure no metal shavings are inside, such as disassemble the slip yoke? Ideas/suggestions?

if you disassemble the slip yoke, be sure to mark the two pieces so your alignment is the same when you put it back together...
an out of phase u joint is a pain...
