22RE propane conversion with GM ignition?
OK so after trying to make my 88 Toyota Pickup run longer then just what the cold start injector will allow I have decided to convert to propane. I have a few questions and wanted to see if anyone has a step-by-step conversion write up. The kit is on its way to me from Gotpropane but I am trying to get a handle on all the little things that always seem to pop up when doing a conversion. I know that for the conversion to work on a 22RE you are to swap to a 22R distributor and coil pack. I have a 22R distributor but all my 22R coils have bad or very questionable control modules. I see some on EBAY for $200ish on a used ones.
1) So my first question is has anyone used the GM DUI distributor conversion and run propane? Looks like I can get a GM style distributor for $350 new with coil on top of it. I figure I would pony up the added amount and buy new GM if I knew for sure it would work with a propane conversion. http://performancedistributors.com/p...i-distributor/ I guess I do not want to be stuck with spending the money only to find out it will not advance the timing enough or something like that.
2) Has anybody that has done the 22RE propane conversion been able to keep the stock SR5 gauges? I know the fuel gauge would not work because no fuel tank but what about volts, oil and mainly Tachometer? I realize most of these conversions are for offroad vehicles but I would like to keep my truck as stock as possible.
Basically I have done a lot of interweb searches but all I have found are conversions already running in trucks but no "how it got there." I am an image guy so any pictures would be greatly appreciated.
