Suspension lift opinion

Hi guys, this might be a dumb question.

but here is the story, I have a 91 Hilux Surf, and im 99% sure that the surf and 4runner share the exact same parts(suspension-wise).

I'm contemplating 2 lifts

1) Rough country lift($799):

http://www.roughcountry.com/suspensi...r_90-95_5.html

**i dont wheel very much or rock crawl, more of fun dirt roads and good camping trips **

2) TRDPARTS4U pieced together OME kit($901):

Same suspenion set up as this truck(minus the BPV bracket and pan hard drop bracket, which ill get on my own)

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/4Runne...sion/philstet/

**BTW, Gerone at TRDPARTS4U is great to deal with**

what would you guys general recommend as the best option between these two set ups? i like the nice budget prices for both of these, compared to a $1,400 pro-comp set up.

and like i said before, i like camping and some nice fun dirt roads, but im not a huge crawler...but if i happened to find something a little more intense, which of these would be best and also which would be best on-road as well.

PS- im lifting to put on 33x12.5 tires as well, hence the reason for the lift

I was very happy with a OME lift that I put on my old 97 4runner. However that front suspension is different than a 91.

Personally I would do a 2" body lift from http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/BodyLiftKit.shtml
Then I would use a budbuilt cross member to lift the transmission 2". This will increase the ground clearance under the surf by 4" and protect the transfer case. It will also keep your center of gravity lower than a suspension lift. With the 2" body lift you may need to trim a little to clear the 33s. This is a bit more work but the results are better and the cost is less.

i put 33 1250's on without a lift. it fit fine with minimal rub on the sway bar when the steering wheel is turned all the way, later on, i put a ball joint spacer lift on the front and OME 901 coils on the rear. i love it, and would recommend it over a suspension lift kit. I like as stock as possible. but you are gonna get opinions leaning both ways.

Really?! i always hear mixed reviews about people being able to fit 33x12.50 tires without a lift(some people say it fits, some say it wont). i have no sag in the rear end, and actually sit pretty high, i originally though i might have had a slight lift when i got first purchaced my truck....hmmm, if i got a different offset of rim to push the tire outward, and will also give me a wider stance, as i have the widebody hilux(just has big stock fender flares)

maybe if they do fit, ill grab my wheels and tires soon, and then get the lift kit after....

it seems this newbie doesnt get much traffic, id like to really hear some 4runner owners reviews on both of these set ups...or similar ones

there is a guy on here, i think his name is TC, he's all over the place, and he runs 33 1050's. lockers, armor, the whole nine yards. you don't NEED a lift to run 33's and be awesome. next set of tires i put on will be 35's, but i have a lot of work to do before i do that. no butt sag?!?!?! CANADIANS GET ALL THE GOOD TOYOTAS

hmmm, interesting, im hell bent on my 33x12.5x15's haha. but in all reality id prefer to keep my center of gravity nice and low, while getting decent clearance under.

ya im love not having any butt sag. i only have about 110xxxkms(68xxxmiles), so im sure over time it would have slowly softened my coils in the rear, but not any time soon its great though, it almost looks like my truck sits 1 inch higher in the rear than the front, and it even has a rear tire carrier...id love to get a 130ltr aux. fuel tank under where the spare used to sit for those nice long 1,500+km trips without refueling.

i am greatly suprised how capable 4runner/surfs are offroad stock, it is amazing!

some good trail breaking with my buddies silverado:

sometimes you have to take runs at the hills to break through, though i dont really see any snow anymore living on the west coast in vancouver.. only rain, just like seattle

but its worth it in the end....especially in the summer to go surfing at the 4x4 only beachs on the west coast of BC
