Rattling noise from front end,stumped..
Whats up guys. Just picked up my new project. Rescued it from under a tree, been sitting for a year and a half.93 single cab,4x4,22re,all stock. New gas tank, fuel pump and filter, alternator, belts, spark plugs and wires. Been hearing this rattling and clacking noise from under the hood. Thought it could be the valves.Adjusted and found one of my guides(plastic) for timing chain broken. Thought that could have been the noise. So new timing chain and water pump...Still hearing this sound. Gets louder when going uphill or when hot. Totally stumped here.Sound is driving me nuts. Any advice or suggestions? Next to change is distributor cap and rotor, remove cat and replace with straight pipe, remove ac unit. Any help would be great

Pull a spark plug wire one at a time and see if the noise goes away. If it does, then that cyl has either a bad rod bearing or bad ring. Now this doesn't mean if the noise doesn't go away that it still cant be a rod bearing, but if it does, it eliminates everything else. I thought the same thing as you did on mine, 6,000 miles later I had a completely spun rod bearing.

thanks xtreme. something new to consider. thought for sure after i replaced timing chain noise would go away. nope...truck idles fine, low oil pressure when warm and starting up sometimes. changing oil pump next with the distributor.as for the rod bearing, would make alot of sense since i only hear it at higher rpms and on an incline.will check it out. thanks again

yea.when i did the chain. found some big peices of plastic. hoping i got to it all in time. cleaned it out and resealed.found a leak in the water pump, almost fell apart when it hit the ground.trucks running with a little more power now that the timing is on.and less rattle..but its still there.only on an incline or higher rev.breaking down and bringing it to a mechanic i think...dont know what else to do at the moment
