Gear shift knob won't come off...
Seriously, this thing won't come off. I pulled the whole shifter out to replace the bushing in an attempt to make it go into first better. The 4wd knob came off no problem. I put a vice-grip on the bottom part of the gearshifter to get extra torque on it and it still wouldn't budge. I was really cranking on it.
What do I need to do to get this thing off???

2 days ago i was tryin to remove my shift knob. i had just installed it by hand last week. when i went to remove it the whole shifter lever came apart!! so i ended up with a foot or so of the shift lever with the knob attached. it seems the upper part of the lever is just attached to the lower part in the transmission by some rubber sealant or something.
i would be somewhat careful with how hard you twist the thing.

Are there ever any bolts below the diagram of the gears on the top of the knob that need to be removed? It looks like one of the previous owners may have tried to pull the plastic diagram off because it's got a bunch of chips around the edge like someone tried to pry it up with a screwdriver.

First, take the shifter back out.
Then, go beat the guy who put red loctite on the threads profusely about the head and neck with it.
After, you'll need to get rid of some physical evidence.
Finally, make sure the replacement shifter you get from the junkyard isn't the same way!
Disregard all but the final step for maximum efficiency and personal safety.

You have to heat it up to 450 degrees to free up the High Temp Red Locktite they used , then it will come right off .
Be sure to have spare shift knob in case high temps damage that one hehe .

If you're putting a new knob on, I would suggest a band or hack saw cut through the knob till the threads. Or smack it with a hammer to try and crack loose whatever glue or loctite is on it. If it's that stuck, I don't know that anything that does get it off won't damage it anyway, the saw cut is easy.

But seriously, get some vise grips, and lock em on there, and then TWIST, and you should get it off of there. I had to super glue my B&M on there, because when it was tight, it didn't line up right...
