Fuel pump runs when ignition off
Just rebuilt my 22re in my '85 pickup. The ignition was on when I hooked up the battery (oops) and everything immediately started running. Well, I turned off the ignition and the fuel pump continues running as well as the vent fan. No lights are on in the cab. One of the injectors is leaking, so I'll have to fix that, but otherwise the fuel pump shouldn't continue to run with the ignition all the way off and the key out, right? Any ideas?

Well I fiddled with it more for a while and found I can turn it off if I cycle the key a bunch, and sometimes it works and I hear the relay click off. The fact that the vent fan and fuel pump both run makes me think it might be something in the ignition cylinder sticking, but the fact that the fuel pump continues to run when it shouldn't (the afm is closed) makes me think it might be a problem with the relay itself sticking. Opinions? Oh, and I did some more looking at the fuel leak with a flashlight and it's not an injector leaking, instead it's that one thingy at the front of the fuel rail...weird. Thanks. Edit: Found out that thingy in front is called a fuel pressure damper...already ordered a new one.

Either your wiring is REALLY messed up (not likely if you did a rebuild since it's just a matter of plugging in/unplugging harnesses) or, your ignition switch is not actually cutting the power like you are thinking.
It could be the Circuit Opening Relay (COR) that's behind the passenger side dash but the fact that your fan still runs makes me think that's not it. The COR only would power the fuel pump.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I think I figured it out. I tried to start it up for the first time and it would run for a second or two then start sputtering with the check engine light blinking and cutting out and then die. Fuel pressure was good and the AFM was working fine so I was stumped. I rechecked all connections and found the ground wire that hooks up to the intake, not connected. Bolted that on and viola, she runs like a champ and no more fuel pump issues. I figure it must have been that grounding issue playing havoc with some relays and the electronics.
So yeah, now I feel like and idiot. Live and learn.

The blower relay and COR are both behind the passenger kickplate. Coincidence? maybe... I'd probably start there and trace frontwards to see if the wire feeding that block which is supposed to be switched is permanently hot. Not sure that they actually draw from the same wire or just share proximity, but worth a check. The COR has two coils, one feeds the pump when ignition is in start position so ignition switch could also be the cause, as you say.
