98 sr5v64x4 alarm chirp/foglight/autolocks

just picked up my 98. i've searched for 2 days looking for answers to these and finally am going to ask.
1. i have the rs3000, sometimes it chirps on lock/unlock, sometimes it won't, has no consistency as to when it happens and when it doesn't.

2. i replaced stock hella fog lights/driving lights. the relay is located next to the battery separate from all other fuse/relays on the truck, mounted on the fender wall. i saw the mod for the 99's with the relay in the fuse box, has anyone run a jumper from outside the fuse box?

3. i can't stand the auto lock on the ignition. my 94 is a 5 speed so i'm used to just using the parking brake. i had a auto grand prix back in college in between manuals, it had the auto lock and i would always leave it in drive and just use the parking brake, well the damn thing would lock when i got out and i would be stuck with a running car, in drive, with just the parking brake holding it in place. don't want that to happen with this runner. anyway, can this be disabled? everybody on here seems to love this feature, and in theory i do, but i'm always grabbing the door latch while it's unlocking, guess i'm too impatient.

i've got a 2nd and 3rd gen and my dad has a 3rd gen 4runner. i love these trucks. i've already found endless amounts of answers on here and love this forum, thanks for all your help. (by the way, i'm changing the rotors on my 98 tomorrow, thank God they changed the setup from the 2nd gens, i was extremely happy to see that)

alright, traced the fog light power from the switch, back under the dash and spliced to the power for the headlights. removed splice and used spare space in accessory fuse panel for another 15amp and added the fog light switch. fog lights now work when key is turned to acc. also they do not shut off when high beams are on. fully controlled by the factory switch.

I can tell you that I've had (I still have) the same issue with the alarm. Sometimes chirps, sometimes it doesn't. I've never thought of as a problem really, but now that you mention it, I look forward to see what others say...if they do.

finally found a great write up on the rs3000. just went out and set all the settings to the way i wanted them. still don't know if it will help with the "chirping" issue, but the auto locks are off and i activated the auto alarm setting. excellent link.

link removed for copyright issues. don't want to step on anyone's toes. if you need direction to the site PM me

I have the chirping issue on my 97' but its funny sometimes it wont work, sometimes it will, and sometimes it will do a different tone all together.

I chalk it up to a battery that needs to be replaced, stock Toyota battery over a year old in harsh weather and conditions, time to upgrade!

As for the auto lock mine doesn't do that, neither does stepdad's 02. the only time all the doors lock automatically is when all the doors are closed and then the car is turned on. and even if you unlock on door, it usually stays unlock regardless untill you manually lock it yourself.

as for the fog lights, you seem to found a fix, with me i just wanted mine to be on when the parking lights would go on too, so i moved the wire that connects to the high beam wire on the column to the parking light wire under the kick panel. I forget where the writeup for that is but i am please now cause the fogs will stay on any time the parking lights are on no matter if the highs are on or not.

My RS300 works fine when it's warm out but over the last 3 winters I've had it, when it gets cold it either doesn't beep or the tone is changed. Sometimes on the double beep they'll be different. I caulk it up to it being cold and doing half assed work just like I want to be doing.
