4runner for the wife
So my normal hang out is on the 3rd gen side of the house but my wife loves and wants a white 4th. So that leads me into learning about the 4th gens and get better educated on what year/engine etc. Off the cuff I know that I didnt want the AWD situation so unless I'm mistaken that leads me the the 4.0L ...correct? Although the 4.7 has exceptionaly reliability threads in regards in its LC useage. Anyway, the 4.0L has a timing chain (unless I'm wrong here) so when I'm looking at runners in the 50-75k mileage mark I know I'm not instantly going to have to bargain a timing belt installation with the dealer when hangling price. I have noticed some recalls/campaigns on the 4ths and will have to go through those to see if completed .... but I think the biggest thing is the year. Is there a more troubled year and a year to lean towards when shopping for a 4th?? As always I appreciate the guidance !~
ps: If any of you have one for sale also that is nearby then give me a shout

I just got my wife a 2005 white 4Runner! I'm no expert, but this is what I was looking for:
2005+ (newer style engine, more HP, less gas)
V8 - the V6 is good too, but the V8 is an amazing engine... yes we will have to live with that full-time 4wd system...
I was told to avoid the rear air springs/leveling system if at all possible
She loves it!! (and now I can have my 98 4Runner back )
good luck in the search!

Bought wife a 2011 Sequoia, I get my 03 4Runner back. I has 140k miles, and the TRD supercharger since 9000 miles. So no problems even with the 1st year it came out.

damn its been awhile.... Just bought a 2007 4Runner for the wife. I dont think she's been home for 2 days now... just driving around. ha.
So now the question comes into replacing all the fluids. Forgive me for not delving into the 4th gen world yet but will be searching on what everyone is running. I've been doing the same things to my 97 for so long that its routine to change fluids. The vehicle has 67K on it and its a 4.0L. You all running synthetic in yours?

i dont think they really care what you put in them. i think toyota did a bang up job on the 4.0. i run synthetic in mine cause im a sucker. my mom runs junk in her 03 and it loves it. i would go toyota spec on every thing else though. . . . even brakes

and with only 67k on that truck, i would take a look at the maintanence guide, you may not have to do anything.
unless your like me and are completely sure that all previous owners are tarded and probably put sand or something caustic in all the fluid fill holes.
