2008 4Runner immobilized. Help!
Here is my problem.
my 2008 4Runner SR5 4.0L 2wd had a sunroof leak during a heavy rainstorm resulting in carpet on driver and passenger sides getting soaked. The next morning, the truck refused to start. not sure if this was the cause or a coincidence.
remote key fob unlocks doors normally
turning the key to “On” results in all lights on dash turning on and immobilized light on dash turns off
turning the key to start does nothing. No clicks
when key is in On position, I hear clicking from the vicinity of the ECU
ECU gets very hot. Not sure if this is normal
attempted to test alarm using the method described in owners manual. Alarm does not function
the battery, which is relatively new seems to have a slow but steady drain. Disconnected negative terminal and charged overnight. No change
tested:
all fuses - good
starter relay - good
battery - good
voltage from ignition to fuse under dash - good
voltage from ignition to coil terminals on starter relay - no voltage
used jumper wire between terminals for starter relay - starter turns normally but engine does not fire
took ECU to shop that tests and repairs them. ECU tested fine
tried starting with both original master keys - no change
Checked the two large harnesses with bolts in the middle on the drivers side behind kick plate for corrosion. None found.
I don’t know what else to do. Toyota dealership can’t get me in for three weeks. Is there a way to bypass the alarm/immobilizer? I do not leave it parked in any area where I am worried about theft, I just want to be able to drive my baby!

Same issue with my 2003 Toyota 4unner sr5 but my starter constantly clicks and tries to start wit the key in the on positions. I feel like there's something under the carpet causing it to act up.
