Thanks to everyone for their input..
I dropped off my 4runner this morning at Penske Toyota in Downey, CA - for the 50N Recall, supposedly I get a free alignment with the recall.. so I jumped at the chance..
Im planning to change the muffler to the one in the recommended list, also do the airbox modification procedure:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f130...-engine-75127/
Red radiator fluid, and keep topping off the oils, of course, also let it rest for 15 minutes if the sensor goes off!

You seem to pretty much on your feet here.. Use common sense, look for leaks, listen for weird sounds, smell for weird smells, etc.
And for the head gasket, I would blame it more on luck of the draw than anything. My truck, bless her heart, was absolutely beat on by the previous owner, but the head gasket has stayed strong for over a year now. Whereas my buddy's truck he's had for just a few months (less miles, better condition) blew its head gasket last week. It's all in the luck of the draw. Just be faithful that it won't go out, or be faithful in your abilities or of the those around you. Or just a deep wallet!
Good luck and welcome to '89-'95 Yotas!

Wow, it was so hard to find everything I wanted, a 4runner, 4x4, with tow package, in a light exterior, I've been looking since August of last year, and when I finally do, I get the bad combo, lol... Damm
I should have read more about them before I bought one, oh well, I paid $1600 for it, it's absolutely immaculate in its interior, and exterior is pretty good, a minor accident in the front left fender.
Now, I can do the 3.4 swap, 5 speed conversion, or sell it and get a 96 or newer, by the way, they are very expensive, going through Craigslist is unbelievable...

d00d- Sounds like to have a sweet deal there. Ask Penske YoYo about overheating issues on you specific rig, and look into installing a good quality transmission fluid cooler.
As Incredible Mr. pointed out, don't sweat over my past experiences- just be aware of them so that there are no surprises and you're in a position to deal with them if they do actually happen to you.

What a small world!
I just picked up my 4runner from Penske and the bill was a total of $512, all covered by the recall, I needed an alignment badddd... so that was a blessing...
They gave me recommendations.. lol... totaling $11,912... ahahah damm (includes wiper blades.. etc..).
Thanks to everyone again, yes I want to be on the up and up, and I probably going to do the air box mod stopping at the spoiler as well..
Im not sure what muffler im gonna go with, can someone here recommend me one? im looking more into better MPG and better reliability, I didnt buy my 4runner really for 4x4ing.. just to get out of a bind if I go to Lake Mohave deep in the water towing my boat...
So any Muffler recommendations would be great!

Any stock style muffler will do.. There are plenty of styles to mimic the stock sound/performance.
But if it were me, I'd go with the Borla Turbo style muffler! It sounds awesome and offers easy HP and mileage. It's not a huge gain, but it's about all you'll get without more money. The muffler does run about $140 or so, but it's stainless steel and will probably last as long as your truck. The muffler, when paired with headers/ 2.25 pipe will definitely add a nice growl to your truck. You can find it on Summit's website or thepartsbin.com.
I have the muffler myself lying around the garage waiting to be put on.

Wow I just noticed my front end is different than another 4runner, I guess maybe the previous owner changed it? (maybe front end damage)?

yeah yours looks like a 1991 front:
1992-1995

Ok..so you have the square headlights, which are what I want..and you say the radiator supports are not different? So that means I can just swap the grill and headlight housings on my 93 to get the square headlights?? If so, I am doing this so I can get some better lights going.

you think the sealed beams give better lighting than the H4 bulbs?
mmkay... personally I hate sealed beams.. and I will be doing a projector retrofit to my 9004s, as halogen bulbs in general to me are useless. My last 4 cars have had OEM HID Xenon lights, and I can't get used to these yellow halogen focused beam lights.. might as well be driving with the lights off.

I was referring to his headlights, never even noticed his grille, what I noticed is he has sealed beam (square) lights and from my research 92-95 have the 9004 bulbs not sealed beams.

If you are still looking for suggestions on mufflers, I did a cat-back system and put a Magnaflow straight-through exhaust muffler. I noticed an immediate increase in HP as well as about a 15% increase in MPG's. I also went up 1/4" piping (to 2 1/4" I think) as well as did the airbox mod and put in a K&N filter instead of a paper one.
What this does is allow more air in (less restriction from spoiler and filter) and more exhaust out faster (larger piping and less restrictive Magnaflow muffler). My cat was new so I didn't change it but a high-flow cat would also help. This is same for the 22's and the 3VZ-E engines. Borla mufflers are also good but I went with the magnaflow since it's not too noisy. I'm not one for a loud rumbling truck that wakes up my neighbors every day at 7 am.
Also, don't apologize about your truck! Like I said before, I think you've got a gem on your hands. It's in great shape and no real issues. Just because someone had an issue once doesn't mean you'll have it too, millions of these trucks were sold so there's a plethora of different things that "could" happen. In reference to head gaskets, there was a recall about a decade or so ago that fixed most trucks. Based off what I know about my truck, in the last 6 or so years there's been no issue with it and mine's got 280k miles! Keep it well maintained with fluids (brake fluid, coolant, oil, etc.) and it'll last you a long time.
