Need help with clutch pedal bracket replacement

i got a 91 runner n the clutch bracket broke in 2 places, gonna pull it out and replace it with a used 1 i picked up tomorow morning. a few questions, do i have to disconnect any part of the steering column or rod to remove the bracket? 2. do i have to disconnect the brake booster? 3.are there any parts of the process that commonly give problems that i can avoid? Any tips or walkthroughs are very appreciated thanx

Hey guys,

The bracket snapped the other day and im trying to pull the bracket out but its riveted to the firewall.

Anyone else experience that?

Im most likely going to drill it out, unless someone here has dealt with it and has a better idea. Thanks

The two rivets on the clutch side of the bracket are the bolts holding the Clutch mastercylinder, Remove the 2 nuts off it then the 4 nuts holding the brake power booster and one 12mm bolt going vertical through the top of the bracket.

I have gone through 3 of these and made 4 reinforcements.
1st was a 1/8" bent L plate bolted along the back and following the shape of the top of the bracket, This is a main reinforcement.
2nd, A bracket that is bolted down to the clutch bracket via the clutch switch and then to one of the bolts holding the dash crossmember, This one is very good as it stops the lateral movement.
3rd, removed the little vertical 12mm bolt and ran a 1/2 threaded stud with 4 nuts and washers through upper firewall and clutch bracket (Don't forget silicone sealent on the firewall.)
4th, I just did to reinforce the firewall between the clutch bracket and the clutch cylinder., I made 2 thick aluminum washers 1.25" dia x 1/2" thick that slid over the studs.

Nice, yea I plan on reinforcing the bracket to death, I don't want to deal with this ever again.

I didn't drill anything out last night, I washed my hands with it and went to drink some beers at my buddies. he also has a 89 pickup but his is the 22r single cab.

I stuck my head down there and it would be so much easier to do the job on his truck.

The "rivet" I was talking about looks like a nickel welded to the bracket on the clutch side.

I can post a picture later when the sun goes down and I start to work on it again.

I welded mine while it was in the truck, and still hooked up. I basically welded the crack, thhen put in some reinforcement bars and welded them to the firewall, and metal bar that runs just under the steering wheel.

It lasted for 3 years, and was still working fine when I sold the truck....

If you decide to weld it while in the truck, be sure to keep a fire extinguisher on hand... I caught the rug on fire in mine

how people get in there and weld with out taking it out blows my mind. I can barely stick my hand tools in there to take the effin bolts off. cheers to the people that have fixed the issue while still in the truck!

Thanks that was my issue.

I am temporarily bummed I have a/c in the truck. sure is in the way.

I tried to pull bracket out without removing the brake/clutch pedal, it looks like il be going back out when it cools off and removing them.

Il tell you what though im gonna weld on so much reinforcements its gonna weigh 20 lbs when im done!!
