The adapters are NPT, your truck is BSPT.
PM BigBluePile, he has a hose adapter that allows him to run an aftermarket temp gauge. Basically you splice the adapter into the upper hose before it goes into the radiator.

Hmmm....so I am currently that adapter (bought last year from Glowshift.com). My sender is dead and I just got a new one but I'm trying to track down a 22RE Turbo t stat housing that has two bungs for senders (1 for my oem one and 1 for my aftermarket NPT one).
Are there no adpaters from NPT to BSPT?

Thanks Ian - I don't know how I always forget about that site - they have EVERYTHING!
Now it's got me thinking again about replacing my cargo panels with diamond plate...need to measure the holes to choose the right Rivnut sizes

It will not work with temp sending units, because the sender has a probe that has to stick into the water stream.
You have to either A. Tap out a hole in your water jacket to NPT threads, OR get that hose adapter.
In my race car, I tried it both ways. The hose adapter ended up restricting water flow too much, so I pulled it out and tapped the OEM sender hole to NPT threads.
IF you are going to do that, I would suggest having it welded shut and redrilling/tapping instead of just retapping the threads further down into the manifold.

Hmmmmm....well shoot. I have a welder (MIG) but I think that only would do steel and not aluminum? I haven't used it yet - got it a while ago for my chevy spring swap I haven't got around to yet....
Drilling/tapping a second bung in my OEM housing could work, but is that too risky, given the thickness of the walls and lack of an existing bung?
