No overdrive is for fuel economy. If your cruising down the freeway at 60 in overdrive or 5th gear and you shut it off it will effectively downshift the transmission. This is not designed to act as a down shift and abuse of it can cause long term wear and tear. But if your heavy with a load going down a road that has several small inclines. If the speed limit is 45 you might do better to turn off you overdrive so your not asking your transmission up shift and down shift a lot. Not sure how your rig drives I'm sure you'll figure out what your truck likes.

Iv recently noticed rust starting behind the back left wheel base where it curves to the bottom of the truck I don't know if you can picture that but I can take a picture if needed, what's the best way to fix it just cut it out an replace the metal

If the rust is deep then cut it out. But if its just starting you probably could expose it grind it away fill it as needed and repaint. Just make sure you figure out why it's rusting. Is it salt from the roads? Crap getting packed in there from normal use? Or just buried it up to the axels one too many times. And just never pressure washed it out.
