the same reason I leave my 4" drop hitch in my lifted full size dodge even when not towing. You rear end me because you're stupid and not paying attention and you're going to have a bad day.
I can't find any point in putting a receiver on my toyota, it barely has enough power to get out of its own way.

Hey Tofer-- I like the protection feature of your hitch set-up.
Mine's a Taco but all this modding certainly applies to earlier model pick-ups and Runners so here's 8 pics.
I have special towing/recovery needs myself and boxed in my c-channel frame ends/re-located the spare/super duty cross-brace with receiver hitch bracing/Allpro lower tube bumper reinforced/drop hitch extended about 10 inches away from truck with a good Home Depot water pipe brace
Oh ya, I added a somewhat un-common "anti-rattle feature" to the hitch by drilling a hole and welded a nut to the receiver. No more clunk going over the bumps.
I've had some female drivers on cellphones that were not paying attention almost rear end me so this set-up will also serve double duty.....more pics to come IF the hitch ever connects with a female.
I expect the Taco frame to stay aligned with all the features I added.

The trailer for my 14' V-hull is too short for the boat, I have something similar so that I can drop the tailgate while backing it up without the winch stand digging into my truck. Maybe that's what he's going for.

That tube bumber doesn't stick out as far as a regular one so the hitch looks way long as if he is ready to go jousting.
