Can I turn a 22r into a 22re?

Can I turn a 22r into a 22re?
My 91 has a 22re with a blown head gasket. The guy I got it from said it was a rebuilt engine when I bought it. I have been driving it with the liquid glass in it to keep it from leaking, but eventually will have to fix it. My delima is that I don't want to tear this engine down for a rebuild or head gasket replacement and find that all the tolerance was shaved out on the first rebuild and I still have to replace it. I found rebuilt long blocks in my area for $950, but would like to fix it cheaper since its not a DD. I found an older truck locally with a good original toyota factory 22r in it. It purrs like a kitten and shows no signs of burning oil or tapping or leaking or anything bad. I can buy the whole truck for $300 and swap the engine in a weekend ( if its possible). What I need to know is, can I pull the engines and swap over all my EFI junk and put it back together and get it running fairly easily? I have all new timing components and cover and water and oil pumps to put on my new engine when I install it.

I'll have to check the year. Thats the only question I didn't ask the guy. It's kind of a "friend of a friend" type thing and all I did was go over and check the running condition of the engine. I want to buy it and yank the engine then scrap the rest of the truck. I probably wont even pay for the title transfer since I'm definately not gonna put a tag on it.
On a side note, if anybody can think of something they need from a 2wd xtra cab, let me know and we'll work something out. All I want is the engine, radiator, shroud, and heater core. It still has a good auto tranny, computer wiring, carb, intake, rear end, driveshaft, etc.

yea i will verify that the intake flanges on the head are all the same on the 22r/re from 79-up. the only different head is the 20r head that has a completely different intake flange. the 22r has square shaped intake ports the 20r has round ones. this is why there arent many 20re's although it has been done.
the efi intake manifold on the efi and the carb are totally different but they will bolt up to each others head with no problems.
now the computer wiring and all that stuff can be tricky to convert and youll need an electric fuel pump.

no they aren't, '81 and 82 22R engines did not yet have the correct bosses for the EFI manifold. in '83 they came with the correct bosses, but not all were tapped for the manifold. by '84 they should all be compatible with the 22RE intake.

Thanks. I checked it out and the guy says its an 86 with all original parts. He says he has never had trouble with anything other than the speedo cable and the AC compressor is shot, so he really doesn't know how many miles are on it. It is a complete running truck that I'm pulling the engine out of to put into a complete running truck. So as far as I can tell I should have all the parts I need between the two.
The only other thing I need to know is; are the trannies splined the same so the swap will go easily?
Looks like I'll end up with a lot of extras. Doors, Windows, frame, seats, flooring, tranny, rear end, driveshaft, wheels and tires, steering wheel, brake system, computer, fuse box, intake, air hat, valve cover, oil pan, power steering pump, alternator, battery, and a lot more that I can't think of right now.
