broken 22re timing chain guides
#21
My set I bought about 6 months ago said made in China on the box (in very small print I might add). The whole damn set is now sitting on a shelf in my shop. I took it all off and won't ever buy another Cloyes product. Got a OSK set like I should have to start with.

Thanks for the link. It's is the one I referred to when I did my '89.
The cover had two grooves in it from the chain slack after the guides failed. I was able to carefully remove the timing cover without damaging the pan gasket or the head gasket. I replaced the timing cover with one I orderd from EngineBuilder (defunct business now I believe). It looked good. Timing kit from rockauto I believe. miscellaneous gaskets and seals from dealer. Not that I recommend doing so, but I left the pieces of guide in the pan. 40,000 miles later...no oil pressure issues. I damaged the harmonic balancer removing it, apparently. So there was vibration when I started and drove it. Got a new one from rockauto took care of that. On a high mileage engine, probably should be replaced anyway. I Used Ultragrey sealant on the cover install. I doing it again, I'd go with all factory parts, except the timing cover

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. People like Wallytoo and others gave me help along the way. I went with the chain/gear set from yotashop - they were made in japan (can't recall the brand name). The set came with the plastic backed guides, however, i went with another metal backed guide for more longevity. Did oil pan as well - correct - a pain in the butt.
