That's not a big worry to me right now though. I wanna drop a 5 speed in it and have some fun. A lot of people don't expect a little old truck like mine to have much cajones, so when I step on it, it gets some looks.

Dont need a reader for these old dogs. Under the hood next to the relay box is grey conector. If you jump te and e1 it will blink any codes on the check engine light, trans codes on the od off light(od has to be on,ie light of)

Ahh, good to know... so what would the code be if it blinks? Like I said earlier, don't have my truck here to play with. And what would I jump it with? Paperclip?

Paperclips my tool of choice. Lives in my glove box. Search for toyota fsm on the site and download the one for your generation of truck or runner. Great resource for testing parameters. Chiltons or hynes come in handy as well.

I have a Haynes manual... it lives in old Wheezy... which is my nickname for Louise. But like I said, wanna drop a 5 speed in her. And if I do that, I'd also wanna do a Supra rearend swap... I don't like drum brakes.

When I say rearend, I mean driveshaft, drive axle, brakes and rotors, suspension... everything.

Come to think of it, I've wanted to bag it and make it a show car for the longest time, but now I find myself more concerned with performance than anything else. So I think I mentioned earlier that I did a 3in drop in the back, but I also did roughly a 2in torsion drop up front. As you can seefrom my profile, she sits fairly level. I don't want it lifted and I don't really want to lower it any further. Has anyone swapped the rearend of a Supra onto their truck, suspension and all? I'm also thinking of doing a 4-link too... benefits? Negatives?

Yes, the supra AFM, covered extensively on these boards. You'll want to get a wideband 02 sensor to properly tune your engine however.

The headers on the 3vze really don't do much except for remove heat. I have a post here that talks about my opinion on headers or rather the lack of need to spend $600-$1000 on headers for a couple hp gains (the short a crossover delete and installing a passenger header on the drivers side is the way to go -- I think use the crossover for down pipe on passenger side and fab a new on on drivers and then use LC Engineering's Y Pipe for their headers to tie into the exhaust): https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f149...eaders-270353/

Here's what I just did to clean my plenum: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...tuneup-271923/
Way easy.

Thanks so much for the info. I appreciate it and I read through all of it. I'm definitely gonna do the 7MGE AFM swap good tip on replacing the O2 sensor too. Probably hasn't been done since it left the factory floor, lol. I wonder though, how much fudge room is there to port out the TB tube on the intake manifold? Even if it's only a few millimeters, it'd be optimal over what it is stock for air volume. The only reason I mention this is because I'm on the road pretty often and don't have time to drive my truck, but if I can take the TB to get bored for a bigger size, why not the upper Plenum too? Just that center tube that comes back off the TB. Also, if I did the crossover delete for the exhaust, all I'd have to do is get a block-off plate for the one side, and maybe some mandrel bent tubing with flanges, to fit, and a y-pipe cause I already have high flow cat and muffler... right?

Yes on exhaust.

The problem w/ porting the plenum is that 1) you have to pull the darn thing and disconnect all the vacuum hoses, 2) you have to cut the thing in half to port the runners, 3) when porting the runners, you're most likely going to have some crossover/openings between runners as there's not enough room, and 4) even after all this porting, you're never going to have a properly designed intake -- bigger to smaller all the way through...

For the $500+ dollars you'd have in the intake porting, you can put that money towards a 3.4 swap or look into some of the other low/no cost mods that will give you bigger results and a better bang for your buck. The plenum is a dog, and short of building from scratch, you're not going to see a lot of improvement from your effort...

Alright, well, I'm at least gonna take it off and take a steel brush wheel to it to get it nice and clean. I didn't wanna go through cutting it in half anyway. But even with all that, wouldn't it still leave that air chamber at the back fairly dirty? I saw one techer say that he used oven cleaner to get the majority of the gunk outta there cause it's a hard place to get to, just sprayed it in there and let it sit for a while. Any other solvents aside from seafoam and amsoil? Or is that really about all there is to clean that beast?

The reason for the throttle port, is that it's easy to pull. You should really check out/adjust your TPS anyway, and folks have actually seen some gains from the relatively low cost mod. I don't know that anyone's had much luck or seen much add'l gain from tackling the plenum...

There's an Amsoil supplier listing on their website. Basically, your local dealer(s) -- for the most part, it's a sell from home business model like Mary Kay, AmWay, etc -- will likely need to order too unless you happen to live near one of the few resellers that actually stocks Amsoil or sells it as a product in a larger retail store...
