22re--oil cap removed, runs wierd

I was letting my 22re idle and i removed the oil cap. The engine idled down so i put it back on. After i put the cap back on, it idled very irratically and when i would give it gas, it would stall. I turned the engine off and let it sit. I started it back up and ran fine. Is this normal or is something messed with my truck?

You caused a vacuum leak by allowing the engine to suck air in through the valve cover, normal when you do that.

That is completely normal. By removing the oil cap, you created a huge vacuum leak.

A condsiderable vacuum leak was created by removing the oil cap. That is very normal for that to happen as a result.

Hey um, why are you removing the oil cap while the truck's running to begin with???

That's like, number 5 on my list of things not to do while the truck is running...

1) Don't touch the exhaust
2) Don't stick your fingers near the fan blades
3) Keep lose clothing away from belts
4) Avoid touching possibly bad plug wires
5) DON'T TAKE THE OIL CAP OFF

Here's my personal list.

1.) Don't force moving parts.
2.) All parts that move, should move freely.

interpretation
1.) If its stuck its stuck for a reason. making it move will just break it.
2.) lubrication lubrication lubrication

Good assembly guidelines; may just have to adapt those for myself, lol.

A couple things you might add:
  1. Don't pull the wire off the coil while the engine is running. Yes, it will stop the engine, but not after sending 10 000 V through you to your knee or willy which ever is closest to the metal bumper.
  2. Don't bump your mechanics stethoscope against a a moving part- like a cooling fan.
  3. Don't drop the hood while your head is still under it.
  4. Don't pull the gear shift out of gear on a hill unless the hand brake works or you are in the car.
  5. If a bolt isn't going in easily, Don't force it unless you like drilling.
  6. Make sure your face isn't in line with the trajectory of a the oil/ coolant when you undo the drain bolt.
