Hi, I have an 86 1ton. 22rec with auto. The entire exhaust needs replacing. I also need to remove the exhaust manifold due to a bad gasket. The Y-pipe is rusted through. The cat is long gone and I'd rather not replace it - no smog tests in Michigan.

I searched on-line and hit a wall. No one I found lists the 1ton (7ft long box). My local parts suppliers could not help. Even Maxi Muffler couldn't help with a Y pipe and would need to install a cat if I had them fabricate a system.
I called the dealership. Parts guy said there were a number of pipes used on the pickups and only the VIN let him select which one fit. None were available. He stated the 22r y pipes were different from the 22re and 22rec. He thought the 22r Y pipe was longer. Does anyone know the facts?
Are all of the Y pipes tuned the same? I believe I remember our 73 Corolla wagon had much longer twin pipes in the Y pipe than the pickup has. I remember always hearing the Corolla come on pipe when it was getting time to shift. If there are Y pipes for the pickup that are tuned differently I'd prefer fuel economy and low end power over top end or high throttle power. Since my truck doesn't have a cat - longer pipes might help with fabricating a system.
Does anyone know what changes took place with the exhaust pipes? The 1985 trucks used a different Y pipe than the 1986 for some reason.
I'd like to get a stainless system over aluminized due to being in Michigan. Obtaining parts is tough now already - I'd not want to really struggle 7 years from now. Any suggestions for suppliers would be appreciated.
