yeah I did and no mention of the "re-set" aka gear pattern check etc on the locker install. I am assuming this is because the pinion gear isn't removed from the carrier only the ring gear. Gears aren't my thing, and this recently came up for me, talking to someone who knows these yotas and had mentioned even with the aussie/locrite you have to "re-do" the backlash and stuff because you have to take the carrier out of the 3rd. My feeling why you don't is the reason why you have to on say a detroit install is because your swapping both the ring and pinion over because the detroit completely replaces the carrier where as the lunchbox doesn't. But I don't know much about the ins and outs of gears and such. Just the basic operation.

I think you should always recheck you after your messing with diffs suck as pulling ring gears. Its easy to get some set up paint and do a quick check. When I welded my front I reinstalled and then checked and everything was good. Just cause you take out your case and remove the ring gear does not mean you have to mess with the shims. Just make sure you remeber how it all goes back together LOL. Doing the lunchbox lockers is really easy and chances are that even if you remove the ring gear (in my couple of times doing it) you dont need to adjust anything.

That's correct. Just make sure to mark the adjusting rings against the case. Also mark the ring position against the carrier. That way EVERYTHING is put back where it came from. It really is easy to do.

i need an opinon i found a 4.7.1 transfer case for sale, would it be a better idea to have open 410s and 4.7 tcase or 529s and locked in the rear. the tcase is a good deal and i would eventually be able to afford new gears and a locker but it would be a few months?
what do you guys think

4.7 case will do you no good on the street. A gear change will do you little good on the trails IMO unless you drive around trails in 4hi. In which case the 4.7 case won't be of use to you on the trails either. Gears will help some, but not as much as it helps on the street or in a mud pit. The 4.7 case will do more good on slow moving rock climbs then gears will.

if you regear and have a locker it will be better. 4.7s with open diffs just means you will have one tire on each axle moving slower when you are stuck.
regear and lock THEN go slow, with a 4.7 set or duals.

If you're wheelin tight trails or slick rock the 4.7's are awesome. The diffs and lockers are more work but ultimately get you to and from the trail.
If this tcase is such a good deal then get it and stick it in the corner. Concentrate on the diffs and lockers

I'll have to agree with the hill decent. I don't generally like hills. And have to use the brake I feel too much. And if it's loose well forget the brake, you just have to drive it. My 4.10's might have something to do with that I'm sure, but a 4.7 case has to be better then if I were to have 4.88's. Only issue I think I would have with the 4.7 case is when it comes winter time and snow on the ground. Although I don't drive too fast in snow, I use 4 lo 99% of the time. I would benefit better with a dual case setup then a single 4.7.
