Exclamation Newb here! I need help with starting issues

Hi all!

New here! I have a stock 1985 pickup in great condition despite the no starting issue. 2nd owner, originally farm owned before. It is an 85 22r manual base with 110,000 original miles. Purchased in 2009 with 55k.

I've been driving myself crazy trying to sort out what's going on with the starting issue. It did die on me while driving home one day, resulting in a tow. While dying the dash lights would dim while I was not pressing the accelerator. I was able to successfully jump it and almost make it home before the tow (2nd jump attempt did not work).
I had it towed home and have since replaced the alternator, starter, and battery with no luck. I'm getting 1 single click while turning the key, but no turn over. Lights and stereo all work. I'm thinking (and hoping) it's something to do with the ignition. I'm running out of ideas here and could use some input.

Let me know if any other info is needed!

Welcome to YotaTech

If it sometimes starts, but mostly does "the click of nothing":

I wish I would have seen this thread in 2012. I've been chasing this "ghost in the machine" for almost 15 years!! I finally just gave up and ran a separate 12v push button starter switch. I got sick and tired of stopping for gas and....."nothing". This explains why it would crank if someone offered to jump start it.

I found out Toyota's mistake a few months after I bought my truck in 2012
