Bypassed ignition coil kill switch, now no start
So just bought this stock 85 extended cab a few months back and its ran great. The only thing not stock is a kill switch wired into the ignition coil that has worked great. I use it when I park in the city or bad neighborhood and the truck turns over but wont fire cause theres no spark, right. So I used it the other day, came back and flipped the switch back to normal and it did just that, turned but wouldnt fire. Jiggled the toggle switch a bit and the wires connected to it and got it to start. Then it kept cutting out on the way home and even had to pull over and jiggle the wires again.
So anyways I was thinking bad connection or bad switch. The switch was was installed in-line coming off the negative coil terminal (terminal closest to the cab right?). So I bypassed it, cut the wires and crimped them together.
Now it still turns over but wont fire. Tested the coil terminals and get zero resistance between them. So now im really confused.
What did I do wrong?
If my splice job was bad why am I getting zero resistance?
Was my coil bad all along?
Or was the switch acting as the ground or something?
Any input welcome.
