84' celica engine in my 85' 4runner

i found a donor celica with on 100k kms, it has a 22re engine and i'm wondering if it's the same 22re that is in my 4runner. Also wondering how much i should offer him for this engine.

Thanks.

I am putting one in my 1st gen truck somedayyyy. 1986toyota4x4 and Dutchbelly are using Celica motors also. Maybe their threads will help with some questions you may have.

You will need a 4x4 pickup tube and oil pan. But I am guessing it would work for you. I hav a 83 Celica tranny in my 2wd truck and it was a direct bolt in. May not be much help from my end, but it is what I am going to be using.

I think the sensors and such will be different. I have an 84 celica harness and ECU and they are totally different then an 85 setup.

I don't know if you can just swap on your 85 intake and call it good?

Seems like it would be easier to just find the correct engine then tryin to save a couple bucks.

I swapped the EFI set up from a 84 celica into a 84 runner (carbed)

The wiring harness and ECU are a bit different.

Wiring harness is made with the AFM and battery swapped..

Nice work Outsane, looks great! I'm gonna go check out the engine in the celica to see it condition, I have a hard time believing that one 22re cant go in place of another. The guy is only asking for $600 for it all so I think its worth the shot.

Thanks

Just be warned 84 was the change over to the different blocks of the 85 style engine.

Some 84 Celica`s had the old style engine some the new style.

As long as you swap the complete Engines and all the electronics it should not prove to big a challenge.:jessica:

I thought you had done a complete swap, Outsane... Struts, electronics reversal, etc...

$600 bucks and you think its a good deal?? Used engines that old are only worth the core charge AFAIC.
