Who's Running Emissions Equip. & Who's Not?

Hey Guys,

I was wondering who is running emissions gear on their trucks and who's not.
Anyone regret removing anything? Anyone tear it all off and has never been happier?

I started my truck the other morning and my Smog/Air Pump started making scraping and grinding noises. (I've got an 81 Truck, but I'm running an 88 engine and wiring harness...believe it or not it's a factory carbed engine)
Anyway, I'm thinking of removing the belt rather than listen to it grind and I have no emissions to meet so I may just remove it altogether eventually.

Opinions on emissions, anyone?

Thanks,

Juanathon

I only have a PCV valve on mine but it's only been there since the last rebuild. There's no emissions (or safety) inspections here so I don't worry about it, I used to do inspections so I would pass it myself. When I had to send in a printout proving the test was done I'd test 3 of 6 cylinders (dual exhaust) and pass that way

Thanks for the posts...see, I purchased a 1988 2wd truck in 1992 from the original owner.
He had the oil changed with Mobil 1 Synthetic at the dealership when he bought it, and always kept it up at 3,000 mi. intervals, I have done the same...well that truck motor has always run like a top. Anyway, long story short, I rolled the 88 in 98' and after purchasing my 81 4x4 ( impulse buy, but I'm sure you guys understand ) I realized the engine was in very bad shape. I swapped the 88 engine and wiring harness into the 81. Mostly it's been great (except for splicing the guages into the new harness) , however while I've kept it all stock, I've always wished I could just simplify the engine bay. Which is why I'm asking...I would keep EGR, PCV, and EVAP...but would like to shed the rest.

Thanks,

Juanathon

I chose to go with a stock setup because I want a quality daily driver and not serious off road. The way it was explained to me was that Weber's were designed for racing applications and so constant adjustment would be expected. I'm no carb guru so I really don't know. I just asked around for a long time and decided a reman AISIN was for me. Just my 2 cents.

no, HOLLEYs are racing carbs, and adjustments are needed daily. i had to adjust the carb in my old chevy every day, in the morning, and in the evening (when the temp and climate pressure would change). it got very annoying. (then again i had a holley 750 racing carb on a 350 motor... yeah)

I run all my stock emissions (except the egr...only because the modulator went bad and I don't wan't to pay to replace it right now). When it all works right, it's a good thing. Problem is with trucks this old a lot of it isn't functioning properly and is expensive to replace.

I have a tube that you are looking for. I understand in Cali you have to make your truck legal. In Texas if it is a 1983 or older making it legal is an option. So you can PM me if you still need the tube. I also have all the rest of the smog stuff for a 1983 yota if you need it. Thanks Michael
