I have a 1983 toyota pickup. It is lifted now with home built springs. I have a built gm 400ci small block in it. I run a set of 37 boggers and 42 tsl's. I have a toyota solid front axle and a ford 9in rear end. All my spring mounts are in the stock location. Does anyone have a idea of a direct fitting spring that will give my truck more lift and be stiffer than the toyota lift spring?

Why get a direct fit spring? Why dont you move the spring mounts and get the Ford 57" or Chevy 63" springs or get some from a vendor like Trail Gear or All pro and you will get a better ride and more flex than trying to find a direct fit spring.

I could do that. Im not to concerned about flex being a mud racing rig. What kind of height are people getting out of those springs?

Trail-gear has 3in 4in and 5in springs. trail gear also has the HD springs for bigger motor applications like yours

With a V8 in front you'll want HD springs.

For a mud truck your gonna want the stiffest spring rate you can get. It's best to stay stock length as well. Meaning direct bolt in. There is always the RUF (Rear up front) and then use a spring in the rear to level you out. (not sure offhand how much lit you gain by doing that though) Reason why I say stiffest, unlike a drag race car, you don't want the arse end of the truck to squat when you launch.

Your running 37's and 42's now, how much lift you running to begin with?

And can we get I love mud trucks.

Old Man Emu front springs, stock length...w/ the HD option part #009FA, then add 2 x D17XL leafs for the weight of the V8 .

Get 2 x 009FA's if you have the 3/8" spacer on the driver side spring pad and want the same arch, the 009FB is the stock driver side shorter arch spring.

I didn't have to do anything to stiffen it up. Takes the power fine. Thanks i will have to check out the springs. And look into the additional two to stiffen it.

I have a th350 that is built up and manual valve body and a 205 transfer case. The combination has worked well.

I have a question- I am lifting a 1983 yota pickup and i am going to remove a few leaf springs from the rear. (front is done). (prevous owner put in extra leaves for a total of 6 spring leaves) i was wandering how many i could take out to still be safe ? i want the truck to be very soft (its not going back on the road, offroad only) but i am not sure how many to take out ? help would be great. I am talking the lift of a wrecked 85 yota i bought but not the springs (they are rusty and crapy). So i want to use the factory springs for now (till i get enough money for better aftermarket springs).

Are you looking to get your truck lower or just get a softer ride?

I want a soft ride for offroading and in the future i want to get some serous flex out of it but the truck isnt going to be put back on the road only for muddin and wheelin mainly i am lifting it now but i just want to know how many leaves that i can take out and still be safe for now

well you could probably get away with taking one or two out. I would start with one and try it. I would honestly just go buy a set of skyjacker soft rides or all-pros. If it is a budget issue though i guess you could try and remove one or two. Just don't take to many out because you could start breaking them from not having enough support.

Ok thanks for the help ill take out 1 or 2 for now then i will buy a set of skyjackers or something better in a couple months. Right now i have to replace the trans in my other85 yota so after i pay for that ill buy some better springs. Thanks.
