I've never had a problem with a leaking front seal on the 3 I have replaced on 20R and 2 22rs. When I change the seal I make sure it is positioned in a different spacing from the slight groove on the pulley and I put Aviation Form-A-Gasket on the outside of the seal and some grease on the seal surface and its never been a problem. The form a gasket works wonders.

So it looks like at this point the old pump failed. I did notice a few things: The old oil pump and seal separated very easily from the pulley. There was very little struggle getting it off. The new pump and seal were really tight against the sleeve. I suspect the old pump seal housing was at fault. It seemed very loose compared to the new one.
There are no leaks as of tonight 60 miles later.

still no leaks after almost one year of driving? was it definitely the oil pump housing the problem? any update? I got the exact same problem right now with my 95 22RE. just sleeved the pulley (had a nasty groove) and replaced the seal (OEM) but the leak is still on, even bigger.

no leaks so far. I check it from time to time.
This is the first time I have ever had a problem with the front main seal. Both my 22re's never had any issue. This 22r has been problematic.
