82 charge system fuse

I am trying to find out if the 82 model truck has a fuse or fusible link for the charging system. My charge/brake light came on and the charging system is not working. I have found that if voltage is applied to the yellow wire ,at the regulator it will charge untill it is shut off, then you have to do it again to get it to charge. It is not getting the voltage to excite the charge curcuit. The engine fuse doesn't have voltage running or not. I am wondering if this fuse controls the charging system. any help would be appreciated.

I have found out that if 12v is applied to the charge light relay, it will trip the regulator and the alt will charge. So i have a charge light that is working, the charge light relay is working after voltage is applied there is power in and out ,but no power on eather leg when the light is on. So I believe there is something between the charge light and relay that is not working but what .Any ideas ? I have been unable to find a wiring diagram that shows the charge light relay wiring

The "Charge/Brake" light comes on and stays on on my '81. I metered the alternator and it was putting out 12.7 volts. I was told that the charge lamp relay was probably bad and needed to be changed. The manual shows the relay and the couple wires connected to it (I'll try to find a PDF to upload on here). The problem is, the manual doesn't give a good description on where the relay is at in order to check it too. I've read where its either located on the driver's side or passenger side kick panel or behind the dash

On my 82 the relay is just under the dash on the passenger side. It has a yellow wire which I believe goes to the alt ,yellow with red dashes which goes to the charge light and fuse box I think, the 3rd wire is ground . The sr-5 truck seems to be different because of the volt meter,at least on the 81 sr-5 parts truck I have.

I talked to Danny in the parts dept at the dealership in Harrison Ar. he is looking for the wiring manual which is in storage. He told me that the charge light relay could be on the driver side behind the kick panel. Maybe this will help you locate it.

In my search for a answer I ran across something that might be of interest, to anyone who has change to a internally regulated alt, and has trouble with the charge light staying on.

I never fixed it correctly,I ended up installing a horn button to trigger the alt to charge. After the truck was running I would push the button which would excite the circuit to charge. While working on the truck a man bought it from me, He wasn't worried about fixing the system as long as it charged. I don't remember how the button was wired in ,it seems like it by passed the charged light sending 12v to the relay. The diode didn't work for my problem.

Well the Diode thing does work in getting rid of the charge light. Unfortunately for me the alternator is not exciting.

Could you tell me how you wired up the alternator to excite it?

Opps I just seen you said you cant remember.
