1976 truck has to pass california smog
I just bought a 1976 toyota chinook, from a storage yard. Until a month ago it hadn't ran for two years. I installed new plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, breaker points, air filter, fuel filter, oil change, I'm sure you know the routine going through a used rig for the first time. Anyhow it runs nice. I do however have to pass california smog to finish registering it. It has a smog pump but the smog/AC belt has been removed, obviously I can put a belt back on it but I want to know it's working properly before I go to smog it. If anyone is familular with the emissions system in these old trucks, I would be greatful for any tips on getting it back to factory specs.
Thanks

Depending on where you live in CA, emissions regs can be pretty relaxed on the older trucks. Start by getting a pre-check, you may be OK right out of the gate. If you aren't... it will be painful.
Replace:
EGR (I promise it doesn't work anymore)
O2 sensor
Then try the pre-check again. You may have to replace VSV's, the computer, etc., if you don't get by at this point.

1976 Truck Want to pass smog.. once.
Hey there,
I'm currently trying to pass smog in ca in a town that I only need to pass once for registration. It is non-cat. I know i need the smog pump and connections , does anyone have a list of parts and also potential resources to buy? Ill start checking pick n pull inventories but wondering if anyone here has ideas or more information. Thank you!
