1990 4Runner V6

Passenger side near firewall. This hose is dripping fuel where the steel tube enters into it on very cold mornings. The leak continues for a short time until the motor warms up a little. Been going on for a while. Used to just think the smell of fuel on cold mornings was just running too rich but noticed this fuel line is actually leaking and dripping down to the ground.

Bought a 2001 SR5 wth 100,500 miles and I am baselining maintenance. While I am under there I want to check breather tubes for transfer and diffs. After reading several previous old posts, I am confused about one thing.

Are the transfer case breather and the tranny case breather connected together and then vented to engine spaces OR is the transfer case vented seperately??

Does the tranny case even have a breather that is vented with hose??

Thanks for any help.

Just ordered my cam and head

... Well, an Engnbldr head and cam that is :) $436 should bring the head and 268-C cam to my door hopefully sooner than not. I want to get my truck...

... Well, an Engnbldr head and cam that is :) $436 should bring the head and 268-C cam to my door hopefully sooner than not. I want to get my truck on the road again. It turns out all all of my colling system issues were the result of what I feared, a blown head gasket. Blew in such that there was no coolant in the oil, but the exhaust gasses were overpressurizing every component in the coolant system, hence me having to keep replaing them. Figured it was a head gasket when I started getting water from my exhaust.

Plan thus far is to get truck on the road. When funds pool up again, I'm going to look into exhaust from manifold back. I've been reading more and more of you say that the stock exhaust manifold is still a good choice, rather just some attention to the remainder of the exhaust system (downpipe, cat, muffler, pipes, etc...)

Talking with Ted and Tod at Engnbldr, I relayed to them what my driving habits/vehicle was like. Here's a bit of our convo...

I wrote...
My truck is as follows, and since it is a daily driver, it will likely stay this way (for now :) )
-1988 4runner, 5 speed - factory exhaust, gearing, and wheels/tires size. Mostly highway driving, light towing, typical rpm range is between 2k and 3k.

I'm not doing wheeling with this truck, so I don't think I need low end grunt. I rarely tow anything, and if I do, it's fairly light. I hate having to shift to go up hills, and I would like to keep it that way. I don't mind a lumpy idle (I forget which cam the yotatech guys said would give me that) but wouldn't mind NOT having one either :)

Ted responded with...
From your description, the 268C/Torkr would be the best choice of our offerings. It has nice off idle to midrange torque potential, it helps with towing and is smooth on the highway.

It is by far the most popular profile we supply for those wishing a daily driver, and nice since it will work just fine with all stock springs and rockers. If is mellow with 218° @ .050" lobe rise and good .425" gross valve lift.

Our 261C/Crawler is also nice, it has a very small lower midrange potential but helps for those that want to use higher RPM to get across the puddle that is a tad too deep

Yep, the 268C is what I suggest for you.

Thanks,
Ted(engnbldr)

When I get the beast in, I'll probably talk a bit more...

Yippee!

-Chris

p.s.- I am now broke :(

I'm looking at swapping a 3.4 into my 90 pickup. I can get an engine but can't seem to find a 5spd ECU/harness.

SO, I was thinking I could use the sensors, ECU, etc from my 3.0 5spd.

I have a 92 4runner v6 with a 5 speed and after fixing the oil leaks from the crank case cover i noticed more leaks coming from the drive side of the engine. specifically i think it's the oil cooler (the round piece that's on the side of the engine). at least i think it's the oil cooler. it has a single big bolt in it and some hose connecting to it.

my question is, is it often for that piece to leak? if so how hard is it to replace? i am okay when it comes to back yard mechanical skills. swap out the CV joints, removed the intake manifold to replace the crank cover gaskets, etc. just want to make sure this job isn't something i will SOL once i get started.

thanks!

Hi,

Would a 1998 5sp, 6cyl 4Runner have the exact same trasmission as a 1998 5sp, 4cyl 4Runner?

I have a rusted out 98 with a perfect 2.7 motor. I've found a 98 with a perfect body with a blown 3.4 motor. Both vehicles have 5sp manual transmissions. Can I just swap the motors or would there be more involved.

Thanks.
